Finance & Accounting
What do you currently do?
Vice President, Corporate Finance at iCapital (Financial Technology / “FinTech” firm). I am Head of Revenue Control for one of three lines of business at the firm, responsible for oversight of all revenue calculations and reporting, including treasury and cash management. As part of this role, I am also responsible for other areas of the corporate finance function including financial reporting, tax and expense control.
How did you start?
I began my career in public accounting at Ernst & Young in the audit practice of their Financial Services Office. With a client portfolio including investment banks, hedge funds and other financial services firms, as well as obtaining my Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, I gained an understanding of the markets and various financial products as well as a strong expertise of US GAAP, Financial Reporting requirements and best practices for building and improving financial controls. I moved from EY to a Business Finance Officer role at Bank of America, responsible for P&L/Balance Sheet and other financial control over the Equity Synthetics and Securities Lending trading desk. Here I worked directly with the traders to help them understand money being made/lost each day as well as balance sheet usage and whether there were any ways to optimize performance. After Bank of America, I joined a small start-up company called SIMON (FinTech start-up) as their Controller about 5 months after they spun-out from Goldman Sachs and began independent operations. I was responsible for all things accounting, tax, equity and financial reporting and partnered with the CFO and Head of Finance on a regular basis to cover all operational and strategic finance responsibilities required to run and grow the company. I was also responsible for building out a financial control framework from scratch. In Summer of 2022, SIMON was acquired by iCapital and I assisted with various items throughout the transaction in order to ensure its success, as well as efficient integration post-merger.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I love sports (baseball and football are my favorite to watch and I am a huge NY Yankees and NY Giants fan) and I enjoy playing recreational softball and basketball. Outside of that, most of my time is spent hanging out with my 2 year old son and other family and friends.
What is the most valuable experience you think you can share with someone?
I am relatively young in my career but have had a broad experience across many different companies as well as various different responsibilities. I completed my MBA part-time at NYU Stern while working a full-time job and built a strong network of colleagues and professors (on top of those I’ve worked with) who have far reach across many different industries and topics in the finance and accounting world. I think my experience has been valuable in being able to see processes front-to-back and find out what works at different places in order to help build what is needed in order to get where we want to be.
