What do you currently do?  

I am an Analytics Engineer for a health insurance company, UPMC. My team provides analytics support for UPMC’s CHC program. I am responsible for building and automating data flows, creating tables to support visualizations, and interacting with data vendors. 

How did you start?

I learned a little SQL scripting in my previous career as an environmental engineer. I made the transition about two years ago into healthcare and data analytics. It took a lot of practice and some coursework in order to switch industries. I have a long term goal of becoming a data engineer.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I absolutely love backpacking. I enjoy it when I am able to spend multiple consecutive nights in the wilderness. I also enjoy DIY projects, board games, sports, and music.

What is the most valuable experience you think you can share with someone? 

I can share my experiences of how to change industries and lessons I have learned through growing interpersonal relationships. My expectations of the working world and my ambition did not make me the best coworker earlier in my career. I think being kind can go a long way.
