What do you currently do?
I am a Security Architect at Sense. In simple terms I work across the organization taking into account the people, technologies and processes to help them design and mature secure practices which in turn helps with protecting sensitive data and go-to-market activities among other things.
How did you start?
I have always had a technical itch dating back to when I was a kid. My dad used to deploy networking infrastructure at schools and large commercial facilities so he was always teaching us parts of the trade. After obtaining a Finance degree and hitting a ceiling with my interest in the field I found an opportunity in Information Security where I started in an administrative position doing compliance, embraced my curiosity and eventually got back into more traditional computer science and infrastructure concepts paving the way to becoming an architect.
What are your hobbies and interests?
There are a few hobbies that have played a huge part in who I am and how I approach my professional career: music (self-taught guitarist), reading and video games. In terms of interests I tend to spend a lot of time investing in self-educating on military history, how to fix things in my house and how to raise kids!
What is the most valuable experience you think you can share with someone?
My own opinion is that some of the most valuable experience is associated with scenarios where failure is certain or likely whether that be due to unforeseen circumstances, being inserted into position ad-hoc with no chance for preparation or other.
